Becken celebrates topping-out ceremony for
office tower "ConneXion Office"
in Hamburg city center
- Construction progress on ConneXion Office project on schedule
- Ten-storey new building offers space for around 1,000 office workstations
- Completion of the Klostertor quarter by the second quarter of 2022
Hamburg, August 26, 2021. The Hamburg real estate company Becken is constructing the ten-storey ConneXion Office building at Klostertor 1 on the 3,500 square meter triangular building site. In keeping with tradition, the topping-out wreath was hoisted today for the prestigious office building with 17,000 square meters of rental space in a prime inner-city location, just 200 meters from the main train station.
Dieter Becken, Managing Partner of Becken Holding GmbH, said in his speech during the ceremony at the construction site: "With the ConneXion Office, we will provide the growing district here with an office building built to the latest standards and tailored to the flexible requirements of the working world with around 1,000 office workstations by the second quarter of 2022. The new building will not only serve future office users, but will also complete the campus here at Klostertor and enrich urban life in the district." Joachim Schmidt-Mertens, Managing Director of Becken Development GmbH, adds: "The special triangular shape of the building plot is reflected in very special floor plans that are both individual and efficient." He continues: "My special thanks today go to everyone involved in the construction for this great achievement and teamwork in times of the coronavirus pandemic."
Michael Groß, Managing Director of the general contractor AUG. PRIEN, says: "With today's ceremony, we are paying tribute to the excellent cooperation between all the trades and planners involved in the construction and the timely progress of construction, which cannot be taken for granted in times of material shortages and delivery bottlenecks. It gives us great pleasure to be able to construct this forward-looking office building in the heart of Hamburg."
The ConneXion Office and the neighboring "Villa Viva" project, which is currently under construction, will give the Klostertor quarter a new urban feel. Among other things, the quality of the location will be enhanced by the catering facilities for both office projects. Becken is also incorporating new mobility concepts into the project, including a range of charging stations for electric cars. A communal roof terrace invites people to linger and encourages interaction between tenants.
Dieter Becken says of the letting: "Currently, 50 percent of the space has been pre-let. Further talks are currently underway with several prospective tenants. Demand for the high-quality office space close to the city center was very good right from the start and has now increased noticeably again after 2020, which was dominated by coronavirus."
Becken is aiming for gold certification from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) for the office building. The office complex will also have a high level of internet connectivity, as evidenced by a Wired Score certificate. Störmer Murphy and Partners is acting as architects.
Becken was awarded the contract for the exposed site by the City of Hamburg in 2017. This was preceded by a concept tender in which Becken impressed with a forward-looking utilization concept for the completion of the Klostertor quarter.
