Becken celebrates topping-out ceremony for
office tower "ConneXion Office"
in Hamburg city centre

  • Construction progress on schedule for ConneXion Office project
  • Ten-storey new building offers space for around 1,000 office workplaces
  • Completion of the Klostertor neighbourhood by the second quarter of 2022

Hamburg, 26 August 2021. The Hamburg real estate company Becken is constructing the ten-storey ConneXion Office building at Klostertor 1 on the 3,500 square metre triangular building plot. In keeping with tradition, the topping-out ceremony was held today for the prestigious office building with 17,000 square metres of lettable space in a prime city centre location, only about 200 metres from the main railway station.

Dieter Becken, Managing Partner of Becken Holding GmbH, said in his speech during the ceremony at the construction site: "With the ConneXion Office, we will provide the quarter growing here with an office building built to the most modern standards and tailored to the flexible requirements of the working world with around 1,000 office workplaces by the second quarter of 2022. The new building will not only serve the future office users, but also complete the campus here at Klostertor and enrich urban life in the quarter." Joachim Schmidt-Mertens, Managing Director of Becken Development GmbH, adds: "The special triangular shape of the building plot is reflected in very special floor plans that are both individual and efficient." And further: "My special thanks today go to all those involved in the construction for this great achievement and teamwork in times of the Corona pandemic."

Michael Groß, Managing Director of the general contractor AUG. PRIEN, says: "With today's ceremony, we pay tribute to the very good cooperation of all the trades and planners involved in the construction and the timely progress of construction, which cannot be taken for granted in times of material shortages and delivery bottlenecks. It gives us great pleasure to be able to construct this forward-looking office building in the heart of Hamburg."

The ConneXion Office and the neighbouring "Villa Viva" project, which is currently under construction, will lend a new urbanity to the Klostertor quarter. Among other things, the quality of stay at the location is enhanced by the gastronomic supply of both office projects. In addition, Becken is incorporating new mobility concepts in the realisation, including a range of charging stations for electric cars. A communal roof terrace invites people to linger and promotes inter-tenant exchange.

Dieter Becken says about the letting: "Currently, 50 per cent of the space has been pre-let. Further talks are currently underway with several prospective tenants. Demand for the high-quality office space close to the city centre has been very good from the start and has now increased noticeably after the year 2020, which was dominated by Corona.

For the office building, Becken is aiming for gold certification from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). The office complex will also have high internet connectivity, as evidenced by a Wired Score certificate. Störmer Murphy and Partners is acting as the architectural firm.

Becken was awarded the contract for the exposed property by the City of Hamburg in 2017. This was preceded by a concept tender in which Becken convinced the jury with a forward-looking utilisation concept for the completion of the Klostertor Quarter.
