Protestant regional association sells Frankfurt property to Becken for joint project development

  • Sale of a partial area of around 2,450 square meters
  • Joint project development of the Matthäus site on the Friedrich-Ebert-Anlage
  • Architectural competition to determine further planning

Frankfurt/Hamburg, July 10, 2020 : The Evangelical Regional Association Frankfurt and Offenbach has sold part of its property at Friedrich-Ebert-Anlage 33 and Hohenstaufenstrasse 30 and 32 in Frankfurt am Main to the Hamburg-based real estate company Becken, which operates throughout Germany. The property has a total area of around 3,100 square meters, of which a partial area of around 2,450 square meters was sold to Becken. The remaining area of around 650 square meters,
, most of which is occupied by St. Matthew's Church, remains the property of the Evangelical Regional Association.

The existing St. Matthew's Church is to be demolished and replaced by a new church building for the Evangelische Hoffnungsgemeinde, taking into account its listed status. The next step will be to hold a joint architectural competition for the new church building and the new building on the plot of land for sale and to coordinate the results and the utilization concept with the City of Frankfurt.

Pastor Dr. Achim Knecht, dean of the city and chairman of the board of the Evangelical Regional Association, emphasizes: "The new construction of St. Matthew's Church at this prominent location between business and social hotspot shows the enduring importance of Jesus' message of God's love for all people. We are delighted to have found a partner in Becken Development to support us in the construction of this project."

Dominik Tenhumberg, Managing Director of Becken Development GmbH, says: "The greater Frankfurt area, together with Offenbach and Wiesbaden, is an attractive investment location for us. We are delighted that we will be shaping the district around the old police headquarters together with the Evangelical Regional Association."

At the request of the regional association, 12% of the space in the new building on the site for sale is to be earmarked for social housing or, alternatively, for social purposes. With the new building at this prominent location between the main railway station and the exhibition grounds, the Protestant Church in Frankfurt and Offenbach wants to be present with the Christian message for all sections of the population.

FPS Fritze Wicke Seelig Partnerschaftsgesellschaft von Rechtsanwälten mbB Frankfurt am Main and Wiegel Ihde Ekrutt + Partner mbB Hamburg acted as legal and tax advisors on the buyer's side, while KNH Frankfurt a.M. acted on the seller's side.
