  • Six-storey perimeter block development and terraced inner block development with five to three storeys in the inner courtyard
  • Start of construction planned for early 2022

Hamburg, 19 May 2020 : Becken, a specialist in the development, realization and long-term asset and investment management of commercial and residential properties, is planning to build an office ensemble with a total gross floor area of 11,260 square metres on part of the plot of its existing property on the corner of Luisenstrasse and Helmholtzstrasse in Düsseldorf. The part of the building facing Helmholtzstrasse 19 comprises six storeys and closes the existing gap in the perimeter block development. In the inner courtyard, the new building is terraced down to a height of five to three storeys. The new construction work is due to start at the beginning of 2022. Completion is expected at the end of 2023.

Dominik Tenhumberg, Managing Director of Becken Development GmbH, says: "We were involved in a collaborative and constructive coordination process with the Düsseldorf building inspectorate when the preliminary building permit was issued." He continues: "Both the streetscape and the inner courtyard will be enhanced by the new development and the modern design of the open spaces. We are aiming for DGNB gold certification, with the main focus on a forward-looking construction standard with a focus on connectivity and comfort."

Becken held a workshop to select the architectural firm and plan the new building project, from which the Cologne-based architectural firm JSWD Architekten emerged as the design provider. Stefan Spilker, Managing Director of Becken Holding GmbH, explains: "The aim of the workshop was to plan an attractive building ensemble that meets the requirements of a modern, high-quality office property in an integrated location. In addition to the architectural quality, the functionality and energy aspects were an important focus."

Ample parking is available in a two-storey underground garage. The site is located in an urban neighborhood and in the immediate vicinity of Düsseldorf's main train station, which can be reached on foot in around five minutes. Lenz und Johlen Rechtsanwälte Partnerschaft mbB, Cologne, acted as legal advisors for the preliminary building application.
