Dieter Becken founded his company in 1978 after completing an apprenticeship as a bricklayer and studying architecture and engineering in Hamburg and Hanover. He quickly specialized the company in the investment, development, realization and long-term management of commercial and residential properties in Hamburg.

Dieter Becken shaped the image of the economic metropolis of Hamburg with a large number of buildings, including the Berliner Bogen, the police headquarters and the Deichtor-Center. In 2006, Dieter Becken sold his real estate portfolio to the American financial services provider Morgan Stanley and then formed BECKEN Holding GmbH, which continues the company's previous range of services throughout Germany.
