Becken and HASPA PeB lease Berlin office building Am Borsigturm 130 to Bundesanstalt für Immobilienaufgaben (BImA) on a long-term basis

  • Federal Archive is the future user of the 18,000 square metres of office and archive space
  • Joint venture between Becken Development and HASPA PeB acquired the 47,400 square metre site in December 2019

Berlin/Hamburg, 02.09. 2021. Becken, a specialist in the development and realisation as well as the long-standing asset and investment management of commercial and residential real estate, and HASPA PeB, an expert in individual financing options and project developments, have leased their Berlin property Am Borsigturm 130 to the Bundesanstalt für Immobilienaufgaben (BImA) on a long-term basis for around 17 years. As the central real estate company of the Federal Government, it will make the approx. 18,000 square metres of office and archive space as well as the 60 associated car parking spaces available to the Federal Archives for the accommodation of staff and documents of the department for personal information on the First and Second World Wars after completion of the necessary conversions. Together with HASPA PeB, Becken acquired the approximately 47,400 square metre property at Am Borsigturm 130 in Berlin's Tegel district in December 2019. The seller is Motorola Solutions Germany GmbH.

Olaf Drossert, Managing Director of Becken Estates, says: "We are pleased that we were able to convince the future tenant and user shortly after taking over the property, both of the high equipment features and with regard to the location qualities. We were convinced of the potential of the site from the very beginning, which is confirmed by our leasing success."

Around 25,400 square metres of the site have been developed with an administration building and a production building and offer around 18,800 square metres of usable space. Becken and HASPA PeB are working with the Berlin district of Reinickendorf on the legal planning basis for the further development of the previously undeveloped 22,000 square metre section of the site. "The property convinces with its very good transport infrastructure and attractive connection to the lively district of Tegel. This is a popular district for living and a sought-after business location. Globally active companies are located here," says Dominik Tenhumberg, Managing Director of Becken Development GmbH. The area around the Borsigturm has been redeveloped since the mid-1990s according to an urban planning concept by Claudio Vasconi. Since then, a hotel, several office buildings and a business incubator have been built. The main attraction of the former Borsig site is the old factory halls, which were converted into a shopping arcade in 1999. Avison Young from Berlin acted as broker.
