Becken buys property in Berlin-Charlottenburg for new office building development
  • Current acquisition complements neighboring land acquired in 2015
  • Project developer plans to construct new office building with around 10,000 square meters of gross floor space next year
  • Completion scheduled for spring 2020

Berlin/Hamburg, 08 February 2017. The real estate company Becken, specialist for the development, realisation, long-term asset and investment management of commercial and residential properties, is purchasing a further plot of land in Berlin-Charlottenburg in addition to the neighbouring land already acquired in 2015. The purchase was made via a structured bidding process, which was managed and carried out by auxenia RE GmbH and VANDENBERG Immoconsult GmbH. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. Since 1971 there has been a hotel on the area of approximately 2,000 square metres in Knesebeckstraße, close to the Ku'damm. At the end of the existing phase, Becken is planning a new building project with small-scale, high-quality office space.

Dr. Michael Becken, Managing Director of Becken Holding GmbH: "After we opened our branch office in Berlin in 2014, the second project development in the capital now follows. To this end, we initially acquired our first plot of land in autumn 2015 and are pleased to be able to realize the planned project in an expanded form. The new building project will offer a total of around 10,000 square meters of gross floor space for office tenants."

According to a recent Bulwiengesa study, the proportion of office workers in the federal capital has already risen by 24 percent over the past ten years. Experts from bulwiengesa expect a further increase of 62,000 office employees in Berlin by 2020. "In addition to the scarcity of apartments, the amount of office space available in good downtown locations is also becoming increasingly scarce," comments Stefan Spilker, Managing Director of Becken Holding GmbH, and adds: "We therefore see great potential for our project in Knesebeckstrasse and correspondingly high demand.
